In one of my previous posts, I shared my attempt to write an acrostic psalm. Acrostic psalms are structured using the successive letters of the alphabet, so that the first letter of the first line (or couplet or other grouping of lines) starts with the first letter in the alphabet, the second line (or couplet or other grouping of lines) starts with the second letter, and so on, using each letter of the alphabet in order.

Several of the Psalms in the Bible are written this way, based on the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet. As a creative spiritual exercise, I decided to try writing my own version of this kind of psalm using the 26 letters of the English alphabet, and I encouraged some of you to attempt your own version, then send it to me.

Kelli Harrington took up my challenge and wrote an acrostic psalm of her own and sent it to me. As I read it, Kelli’s beautiful, honest expression drew me into prayer, praise, and worship, which is exactly what psalms are meant to do, so I asked Kelli if I could share it, and she agreed.

In the Bible, many of the psalms are identified by the name of the person or persons who wrote or inspired them, such as “A Psalm of David” or “Of The Sons of Korah”, so I decided to call this one “A Kelli Psalm”. Enjoy it!

 A Kelli Psalm

By Kelli Harrington

At a time in my life when I didn’t want to move on, You brought me hope.

Abundant blessings from You shower over me.

All-encompassing love is Your M.O.

Becoming who you designed me to be, slowly yet surely.

Beauty is created simply by your spoken word and we get to experience it daily.

Breathe your life and love in me, please, my God.

Creator, help me to appreciate Your beautiful designs.

Cultivate my life in a way that tangibly shows Your love and grace to others (and myself).

Change my heart to see others how You see them.

Declaration of victory was given when You breathed life back into Your Son.

Dying on the cross for me before I even chose to follow You, Jesus? Thank You!

Draw me close to You so I may feel Your presence.

Delight in the good You see flowing from Your people.

Everlasting love You represent is unfathomable but please try to help me understand.

Enter into all parts of my life; change what needs to be changed.

Exceed our wildest dreams! Blow our minds with Your power.

Free us from our deepest, hidden chains.

Forgive me when I get in Your way.

Father God, Your love for me blows my mind.

Grant us Your power to love ourselves as Your creations and to love others as we love

ourselves.

Guidance, at least pure guidance, comes from You.

Grab my attention when my focus is straying.

Halt the lies that enter my thoughts.

Help me to discern the truth.

I honor You with my life.

I love You, Lord, and want to be a beacon of Your light and love.

Justice will be given by You, Heavenly Father, but if feels like it’s so far away.

Join my heart to Yours. Grow me in Your love.

King of all kings, rule in my life. YOU are my only King.

Laughter is one of my favorite gifts You’ve created and given us. Thank You!

Love of my soul, thank you for loving me even when I am not acting like Your child.

Light of the world, I’ve felt Your light shone through others. Please shine through me to ignite a flame in others and allow them to feel Your warmth.

More of You, Jesus. More of You.

Magnificent Being, will we, as humans, ever grasp an inkling of Your love and power before we see Heaven?

May Your heart infiltrate us, Your followers.

Never leave my side. I need You.

Night skies shout to me about Your awesomeness. I’m humbled You decided I need to be in this world.

Over and over You give me grace. Thank you.

Protect our hearts from evil. Especially evil that is perceived as truth.

Position me so I can help grow Your kingdom.

Question me – my thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Remind me to lean on You.

Revive us, God. We need You desperately.

Reveal Yourself to me (really all of us).

Stop injustice. If I can be a tool, use me.

Send Your love down. It’s the only thing to cover all that is wrong with the world/us.

Spirit, You are my guide and my inner voice. Convict me in the areas I need to grow.

Shine brightly through me, Lord. Use me to ignite a flame in others.

Savior, thank you for loving me even before I chose to love You.

Thank you for always being there for me even when I’ve neglected our relationship.

Truly You are the answer to all of our problems.

Thank you for laughter, the stars, the oceans, the mountains. Your creations are spectacular.

Tame my heart, thoughts, and tongue.

Teach me how to be more like You. You are perfect in every way.

This life You have blessed me with is beyond my wildest dreams. You’ve given me so much. I cannot express my gratitude in words.

Under Your authority and power, Christ was resurrected from the dead. That same power created the heavens and the earth, yet also created me. Mind blown.

Uncover the wounds we’re hiding and heal us, Lord.

Use me.

Virtuous Savior, I long to emulate You.

Vital is Your Spirit in me, Lord.

Weariness overwhelms me. Settle my soul.

Weaknesses in me allows Your power to shine through. Help me step aside.

Whispers of grace and love drown out the yells of failure and rejection.

Xeno-agape, the unselfish love of strangers, must lead our actions.

You are far beyond what my little human mind can fathom. I find comfort in that.

Your love knows no boundaries. Why do we, as Your Church, put limits on it?

You alone are my Reliable Strength.

Zealousness for Your Will guides my life.
